In this chapter, we summarize what is currently known about fathers in fragile families.
We draw primarily on data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study, but we also include information from studies of low-income fathers and their children, many of whom are unmarried fathers. The Fragile Families Study is a birth-cohort study of nearly 5,000 children born in 20 large U.S. cities at the end of the twentieth century (1998-2000). The data include a large over-sample of unmarried parents.
